In ERCOT, where prices can spike to thousands of dollars per MWh and dispatch windows recalculate every five minutes, the cost of SOC misalignment compounds rapidly. Industry modelling indicates that BESS assets can miss more than $1,000,000 per GWh annually due to SOC misalignment.

This session presents findings from ACCURE’s work on a utility-scale battery asset in ERCOT, demonstrating how inaccurate SOC readings directly lead to lost revenue opportunities—and what it takes to fix this without investing in new hardware or additional capacity.

Using a validated example from a 75 MW BESS operating in ERCOT, Dr. Kai-Philipp Karies, CEO of ACCURE, will walk through how the issue developed, where it appeared in dispatch data, and what changed after ACCURE’s SOC Correction was implemented via the existing EMS. The results—validated under real market conditions during one of ERCOT’s sharpest storage revenue downturns—showed more than $110,000 in annual revenue uplift, equivalent to over 5% additional trading revenue.
