Turning accelerated aging into extra capacity.

Challenge

ACCURE’s health tracking showed the cells in a 100+ MWh BESS had lost ≈ 6 % more capacity than the supplier’s warranty allowed within the first two years. The original augmentation plan (adding 1.8 MWh in year 2) would not keep the plant above its required usable-capacity threshold, risking lost revenue and warranty disputes.

ACCURE insights

By comparing the real-life State-of-Health curve with the contractual warranty line, we quantified the shortfall and calculated how much additional energy was needed to stay compliant until the next scheduled augmentation.

Outcome

Using ACCURE’s evidence, the operator successfully claimed an extra 1.45 MWh of warranty-funded augmentation, raising the year-2 top-up from 1.8 MWh to 3.3 MWh. The additional capacity (valued at ≈ $217k) secures site performance, preserves revenue, and keeps the supplier, not the operator, responsible for the accelerated ageing.
